This is a site about music. Yes, there are billions of recordings out there and I’ve enjoyed thousands of them. I possess an insane amount of music, and I find I have things to say about it. This site is not about telling you what’s cool, it’s about me telling you about things you may not have heard of or you might want to revisit, things that move us and should by rights move you too. This is not a blog where you will find “illegal” downloads — not that I have a problem with that per se, but this blog is about getting you to consider dropping a few simoleons on something that will enrich your life. The title of this blog comes from my absolute irritation with the term “tastemaker”, which I abhor, along with terms such as “seminal” and “propulsive”.
I should point out that while my tastes and those of the contributors are pretty catholic, things I really like are: ambient, experimental, IDM and other non-clubby kinds of electronic music; various international things categorized under the unfortunate banner of “world music”; British/Celtic traditional folk and folk rock; psych/acid folk; singer-songwriters who sing about something other than their romantic problems; good solid muscly classic rock music; progressive rock of all varieties; the various kinds of atmospheric rock music categorized under terms like “dream pop”, “shoegaze”, “post rock”, etc.; psychedelic rock; and early music.
The site’s founder, Allister Thompson, makes music as The Gateless Gate and Khan Tengri is a former member of a somewhat successful flare-wearing glam rock band, and is also a former acid folk singer-songwriter and occasional prog-rock and shoegazer (see also my music as Twilight Fields). By day he is an editor of books.
Make Your Own Taste 
Have you given thought to looking at the series of albums released by Anthony Phillips? The Geese and the Ghost, Private Parts & Pieces, Sides, and the like. A great deal of it is quite good, and the vocals on the albums are very good. I love the covers, sure wish they were available to purchase.

I have a few of Phillips’ albums – I quite like them. I’d have to collect a few more to be able to do a comprehensive piece on him, though. I’ll work on it!
